Water Supply

  • Volume Capacity: The maximum daily treatment at the Saskatoon Water Treatment Plant is 270 million litres.
  • Source: The South Saskatchewan River, which flows through the city. The average South Saskatchewan River flow through the City of Saskatoon is 12,100,000 m³/day (12.10 billion litres/day).
  • Quality: Water produced by the Saskatoon Water Treatment Plant meets all, and in most cases is better than, rigorous national drinking water quality standards. Staff regularly check more than 93 different physical, chemical, microbiological and radiological parameters in order to meet the National Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. The city ensures that Saskatoon's drinking water is clean and safe.
  • Fluoridation: Fluoride is added to our drinking water to maintain a level of approximately 1 mg/L in order to assist in the prevention of tooth decay.

Wastewater Treatment

The Saskatoon Wastewater Treatment Plant is designated as a Class 4 treatment facility, the highest certification level in Canada. The treatment of wastewater is regulated by strict provincial and national standards. The city plans to expand the facilities because of recent growth.

Electricity

City of Saskatoon

The City of Saskatoon provides electrical service to a portion of the city. Bulk electrical power is purchased from SaskPower, a provincial corporation, and is then distributed to customers through a system of substations, distribution lines and transformers.

SaskPower

The main supplier of electricity in Saskatchewan is SaskPower. The corporation operates 15 generating facilities and maintains more than 153,500 km of power lines to residents of the province.

Natural Gas

SaskEnergy

SaskEnergy is the natural gas distribution company in Saskatchewan. The Crown corporation delivers safe and environmentally friendly natural gas to more than 325,000 customers throughout Saskatchewan.

Telecommunications

SaskTel

SaskTel is the leading full service communications company in Saskatchewan. Rates are available for services that include telephone, Web phone (a low cost Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service), Internet, and digital television.

Shaw Cablesystems is a general partnership of Shaw Communications Inc. Shaw owns and operates a modern, state-of-the-art plant and network infrastructure and provides high-speed Internet services. Rates are available for digital phone, Internet and cable services.
