Experience Saskatoon

Saskatoon offers all the amenities of a big city with the conveniences of a small community. Saskatonians experience a high quality of life and enjoy a wide range of activities, attractions and entertainment opportunities.

Recreation and Leisure

Our recreational experiences are boundless. We offer:

  • Golf: We have many world-class golf courses;
  • Indoor and outdoor pools: Our swimming pool inventory will soon expand with the addition of an Olympic-sized pool to be completed by fall 2007;
  • Fishing: Find great fishing close to home at the South Saskatchewan River, Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, and Blackstrap Provincial Park. Some of Saskatchewan's great fishing lakes are no more than a two-hour drive from the city;
  • Parks: Pike Lake and Blackstrap provincial parks are within 30 minutes of the city, while Prince Albert National Park is 250 km (150 miles) north of Saskatoon;
  • Sports: Major sporting events display Saskatoon's many highly accomplished, nationally-recognized sports teams at the professional and amateur level. Games are played at the many hockey arenas, soccer centres, etc.;
  • Leisure facilities: The City of Saskatoon offers recreation and leisure activities at its five civic centres.

Arts and Culture

Diverse cultural opportunities exist in Saskatoon, which was designated one of the Cultural Capitals of Canada in 2006:

  • Music: There are concerts, symphony, brass bands, jazz and more. Saskatoon hosted the Juno Awards in April 2007;
  • Theatre: The play's the thing in Saskatoon with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, Persephone Theatre, Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company and Live Five;
  • Festivals: There's something for everyone with FolkFest (cultural festival), Jazz Festival, Children's Festival, International Fringe Festival (alternative theatre), A Taste of Saskatchewan (culinary festival) and Canada Remembers Air Show;
  • Events: Many world-class events take place at Saskatoon's Credit Union Centre, a 13,000-seat arena, and the newly renovated TCU Place - Saskatoon's Arts and Convention Centre;
  • Art Galleries and Museums: We're proud of the Western Development Museum, Mendel Art Gallery, Diefenbaker Canada Centre, Ukrainian Museum of Canada and Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
